Chapter Six: SAD, SAD STORY Brian finds himself in a luxurious bar in Manhattan and after his fifth shot of JB, he looks utterly fucked-up. Songs from -Mogwai- and -Massive Attack- are playing through the speakers hooked on the walls. A small stage is set in the back of the bar. Dimmed lights surround it and a white spotlight glows above the stage where a microphone stands lonely in the middle. Gold ornaments along with dark blue, pink and gray lights accessorize the bar where expensive drinks are being served. Still maintaining his soberness, Brian throws back his last glass of whiskey and pins it on the bar. He scratches his unshaven chin and cheek with the base of his palm. The look on his face remains expressionless, as if somehow it seemed to fit his fashion beautifully lately. Brian has his back facing the stage but still listens as untalented singers warble their songs one after the other on the stage. He inhales deeply and rests his chin on his crossed arms. He hits his empty glass with his middle finger, almost pushing it off the bar. The bartender comes forward, grabbing the glass before it falls off. “Another, Brian?” The bartender asks him. "Fuck. Off.” Brian says barely-audible. “I’ll take that as a no.” The bartender snaps as notices Brian's bad mood and leaves him alone; he washes the empty glass under the running water and walks to another client. “Bye-bye.” Brian whispers to no one in particular. He hides his dark hazel eyes under his longish strands of hair and blows them out of the way, but they come right back in his face. As he listens, Brian mindlessly takes notice of the voice singing at the moment. Without turning his attention to the singer, but carefully listens to the beautiful voice, Brian closes his eyes slightly and hears out the male singer's words. Like a song playing in the background of a favorite scene in a movie. Just as the song winds up, Brian immediately turns around, facing the stage, but he can only witness the back of a blond boy’s body as he leaves the stage behind the heavy velvet curtains.
