Brian entered into Justin’s studio, which they had constructed as a second floor on top of the house. Justin loved the place. It was his sanctuary, the only place that even thought it wasn’t familiar he felt safe. “Hey,” Justin said when he felt someone behind him. “What are you doing here? Where are the kids?” “Molly and Kirk are downstairs,” Brian told him. “Come over here,” Justin told him. “What is it?” Brian asked. “I want you to see this,” Justin walked in front of the painting he had done. Brian walked closer and smiled. “I did this,” Justin said smiling. He couldn’t believe it. He just took the brush to see what would happen and he ended up creating something. Brian smiled and nodded as he saw his two daughters in a painting. “It’s fucking great.” “I have to call Irving and tell him about this,” Justin said. Brian’s smile died. Justin grabbed his cell phone and dialed the number. “Hello, I have something to show you!” “What is it?” Irving asked knowing that the blond was excited. “I did a painting,” Justin told him. “I think it’s pretty amazing. I didn’t even know I could do it.” “Wow,” Irving said. “I have to go see it.” “Okay,” Justin told him. “Does this mean that you are going to paint?” Irving asked. “We can have a show here.” “No, no,” Justin sighed. “I don’t think that’s what I want to do.” Irving sighed. “Okay, fine. But you have to give it a try before you turn it down. Maybe you will like being a painter and living the artistic life.” Justin laughed. “I know, I know. I’m still learning what I like and don’t like. We’ll see what happens. So are you coming over to see my work before I become a famous artist?” “I will be there in an hour or so,” Irving told him. “Great,” Justin said, “I’ll be waiting.” “Bye,” Irving hung up happy that he was going to see the blond. Justin hung up and turned to look at Brian. He frowned seeing that he was completely alone in the studio. He bit his lower lip and thought that maybe he was giving Irving more attention that he should or that Brian was way too jealous; maybe both. He decided that the brunet had to meet Irving and maybe then he would be more relaxed about the man. *** “Put that down,” Emmett said to Alicia. “No! No! No! No!” Alicia chanted as she held Ted’s CD in her hands. “What’s going on?” Ted asked as he came out of the room. Emmett was smiling. “She’s talking Teddy.” “It’s that mine?” Ted asked. Alicia walked over to Ted and gave him the CD. She smiled at him before she ran towards Emmett who picked her up and kissed her. “She’s getting better,” Ted smiled and walked over to them. “I’m so happy to see her running around the house doing all kind of mischievous things.” Emmett laughed. “I have to go to work,” Ted told him fixing his tie. “Ted,” Emmett said. “I don’t want this to be something you start doing now. The weekends should be spent with us.” “I know that,” Ted assured him. “I’ll have a talk with Brian if it starts happening on a daily basis,” Emmett warned him. “Em,” Ted muttered. “Brian is not making me do this. The extra hours are all on me. It’s optional at work and it would be good for us. Saving some money won’t be bad. It would just be for a few weeks and then I’m done.” He smiled at them, “You two be good.” Emmett kissed him and Alicia did the same. After that they got ready and went out. Emmett decided to see how Chris was doing. In the last couple of days he and Chris had grown closer together. “Hi,” Chris said as he opened the house. “Come on in.” “You are not busy are you?” Emmett asked. “No,” Chris assured him. “You got here just in time. Vicky is watching Pocahontas.” “Great,” Emmett walked to the living room and put Alicia next to Vicky. He walked back to where Chris was and could hear the girls muttering to each other. “So, what are you doing here?” Chris asked. “I mean, I love to have you here it’s not that...” “Stop it,” Emmett told him. “I’m not checking on you or anything like that.” Chris stared at him and nodded. “Thanks.” “So, where is Andrew?” Emmett asked as he sat at the kitchen table. “He’s with Mom,” Chris told him. “She came for them but Vicky didn’t want to go.” Emmett was happy. “Good, Alicia has someone to play with and we can gossip.” Chris laughed. “You don’t change.” “I guess not,” Emmett said and watched Chris for a few seconds. He knew the man was still burying his pain deep inside. “So, how’s work?” “Great,” Chris told him. “The magazine is doing great.” “That’s good to hear,” Emmett was happy for the blond. “Yeah,” Chris said. “It’s all thanks to Justin.” “Oh yeah?” Emmett wasn’t sure why. “Oh you didn’t know?” Chris asked. “He was the one that found the job for me. At first I was doubtful but he said that they would love my work. I love photographing things but I never though I could do it professionally. I didn’t think I was any good. God, it’s not even what I studied.” “You never know what’s going to happen in life,” Emmett said and then regretted it when he saw Chris’ sad look. “Mmm,” Chris mumbled to himself thinking how right Emmett was. “And have you heard from Justin?” Emmett asked trying to keep Chris’ thoughts away from anything depressing. “No,” Chris said. “I don’t blame him. I haven’t gone to see him.” “And it’s not like he remembers that the two of you were best friends,” Emmett sighed. “It’s crazy.” “I know,” Chris didn’t want to think about all that he had lost after the accident. “I’m happy that he is okay.” “I’m sure things are going to get better,” Emmett told him. “Now let’s think about positive things. Debbie’s birthday is coming soon. I was thinking we should make something great for her.” Chris smiled and nodded. It was good that Emmett was there keeping his mind off of Michael and onto other happier things. *** Justin opened the door and smiled at his friend. “Come on in.” Irving did and looked around. “Wow, this place is great.” “Thanks,” Justin told him as he closed the door. “So, this is where you live,” Irving said and sighed knowing he was sounding stupid. He couldn’t help it, he was nervous. It happened to him each time he was close to Justin. “Yeah,” Justin looked around wondering where everyone was. “I want you to meet my family.” “Okay,” Irving told him disappointed the blond wasn’t alone. “Brian!” Justin called. “He’s the one that I talked to you about.” Irving frowned a bit. He had asked Justin if he liked anyone and the blond told him he liked Brian. He said that things were complicated and he hoped with all his heart that he could be the one that Justin wanted to be with. He thought he was making progress. “He lives here with you?” “Yeah,” Justin said. “I told you it was complicated.” “What is it?” Brian asked as he came towards the blond rubbing Illona’s back. “What’s with her?” Justin asked worried. “Nothing,” Brian said smiling. “Sometimes she just likes to be held.” Justin’s heart exploded with happiness seeing Brian holding their daughter like that. It was simple things like that which made him want the brunet more and more. “Who is this?” Brian asked. “Oh,” Justin looked at Irving. “This is my friend, Irving. Irving this is Brian.” Brian nodded and rolled his lips inside his mouth. “Hi,” Illona said without looking up. “She’s beautiful,” Irving said feeling out of place. “I...” “Papa!” Fiona yelled as she ran towards Justin as Sheridan ran after him. Justin picked her up quickly and Brian grabbed the pen away from his son. “Who gave you this?” “That’s mine!” Liam shouted. “Dada!” Sheridan screamed as he hugged Brian’s leg. Brian grabbed Sheridan under the armpit and picked him up as well. “You don’t leave your pencils hanging around where your brothers or sisters can get them.” “Okay,” Liam said and looked at everyone with a pout. “Justin,” Irving said surprised. “He looks just like you.” Justin looked at Liam and nodded. “Yeah, he does.” Brian smiled as he put the pencil on top of the counter away from the quads reach. It gave him satisfaction seeing Irving’s face when the man saw Liam. Brian wanted Irving to see the great family that Justin and him shared. “Oh god,” Justin held his head with his free hand. “Are you okay?” Irving asked. “Justin,” Brian quickly walked over to him. Justin held his head tightly. “My head hurts.” Brian kissed him on the temple. “It’s okay. Come on. I want you to lie down.” “Papa?” Sheridan tried to reach for the blond. He could tell that his father wasn’t okay. “Papa has a boo boo,” Brian said putting Sheridan and Illona on the floor and quickly reaching for Fiona. “I’m fine sweetheart,” Justin assured his son. He then ran away and towards the bathroom. Brian with Fiona, Irving, Illona, Liam and Sheridan went to see what was going on with the blond. “Justin,” Brian called from outside the door. “Are you okay?” “No!” Justin hissed. Brian looked at Sheridan and Illona. “Papa is sick so let’s give him sometime.” Brian put Fiona on the floor and walked out of the room with everyone behind him. “I should leave,” Irving said. “Whatever,” Brian told him already dismissing the man. “I don’t care.” Brian went and checked on Keefe who was playing with his teddy bear inside his crib. He smiled and went back to the kitchen to get Justin something to drink so he would feel better. Irving looked around as the kids started to go their own way. “They are your kids with him, aren’t they?” “Yes,” Brian told him. Irving didn’t know what to think. “Didn’t he tell you?” Brian asked. “Well, he did say he had a family,” Irving frowned not wanting it to be true. “I just thought he meant like his mom and dad.” “No I’m pretty sure he was referring to his kids and husband,” Brian said. “So you two are married?” Irving was shocked. “Yeah,” Brian said. “He just doesn’t remember. Maybe never will.” “He said he had been in an accident and that it was complicated,” Irving sat in one of the stools as he watched Brian preparing a tea. “He can’t remember his life,” Brian said. “I say it’s more than complicated. It’s pretty fucked up.” “Damn,” Irving stared at Brian for a few seconds. “What...what if he wants to do something else with his life?” Brian stopped everything he was doing and looked at the man. “What the fuck are you talking about?” “Do you think it’s fair for Justin to be tied to you when he doesn’t even remember you?” Irving asked. Brian was so mad. He wanted to kick the man’s ass. “I am not forcing him to be here. He sleeps in his own room.” Irving stayed silent. “What if he wants out of all of this?” Brian stared at the man with nothing but fear. “He told you that?” Before Irving could say anything they heard a loud scream and then crying. Brian ran to the den and came back with Fiona in his arms. “How many kids do you have?” Irving asked not sure. “Five, plus the one we are waiting for,” Brian told him. “You are pregnant?” Irving asked. “Justin is,” Brian told him before he went to the fridge and grabbed a bottle of juice. “That’s why he is puking his insides out right now.” “Brian,” Justin said as he came back towards the living room with Liam behind him. “I need something to take this nausea away from me.” “I’m preparing you something, you used to like it. You took it before when you were pregnant with Liam.” Brian told him. “It will make your stomach feel better.” “If you are sure,” Justin said and looked at Irving. “I’m sorry man. It’s the morning sickness. It’s awful,” he told Irving. Irving stayed quiet. “Oh fuck!” Justin hissed as he held to his stomach. “Brain!” The moment Justin fell back on the floor Brian’s world collapsed around him as fears from the past mixed with the ones from the present. *** The doctor walked over to the family and smiled at them. “Everything is okay.” “Oh good,” Jennifer said. She didn’t think their family could handle any more crises. “Thank god,” Debbie looked at Brian. “Brian!” Melanie said. Brian stopped pacing and looked at the woman. He didn’t even realize they had been talking to him. He couldn’t concentrate on anything but the fact that Justin was hurt. “The doctor told us that Justin is okay,” Melanie said as she nodded towards the doctor. “Where is he?” Brian walked over to him. “I want to see him.” “Yeah us too,” Debbie agreed. “Not right now,” the doctor said. “I want him to be calm and he said he didn’t want anyone fussing over him. He is going to be on bed rest from now on. He can walk short distances. He is going to be on a diet and I recommend that someone is with him at all times.” Brian rubbed his face. “He doesn’t want to see anyone?” Irving asked. “Yes,” Doctor Henry told them. “I’m his husband,” Brian said quickly. “Well,” Doctor Morrison said. “He didn’t ask to see his husband.” Brian’s heart ached feeling left out. He couldn’t believe that the blond didn’t want him. Doctor Morrison looked at his chart. “He asked for someone named Brian.” Brian sighed with relief. “That’s me too.” “He’s been asking about you. You might have to stay the night with him so he keeps calm,” the doctor said. “No problem,” Brian said and looked at Jennifer. “The kids.” Jennifer nodded. “Don’t worry just go to him.” “Thank you,” Brian told her. “I will let you guys know what’s going on and I’ll tell him that you guys are here.” “I’m happy everything is okay,” Chris said. “Yeah,” Jack got up. “We have to go back. I’m taking Keefe and Sheridan.” “Brave man,” Jennifer joked. “I got Liam,” Chris quickly said. “I want Fiona,” Debbie said. “I haven’t taken care of her in so long.” “We got Illona then,” Jennifer said as they walked down the corridor. “Thank you young man,” Jack said as he patted Irving’s back. “For helping Brian and Justin.” “Oh yeah,” Irving said a little sad that he couldn’t see Justin. “It was nothing.” “I hope everything is okay,” Melanie said as she walked with them. Debbie smiled and in her heart she knew it would be. They all left the hospital leaving Justin with Brian sure that there was no one better to make the blond feel better and calm. *** Brian opened his eyes when someone shook him. “Hey,” Irving said. “Debbie is out there and she brought you food.” “I’m not hungry,” Brian told him. “Go eat something, Brian,” Justin ordered him and smiled at the brunet. Brian got up and kissed Justin on the forehead. “I’ll be right back.” Justin nodded and watched him go. He was happy that Brian had stayed with him throughout the night. They had spent the whole time making out until he fell asleep. It had been great and he couldn’t wait to be able to do it again. “So, uh, how are you doing?” Irving asked. “Good,” Justin told him. “I’m going home today.” “That’s good to hear,” Irving walked closer. “You have a great family.” Justin thought about them and frowned. He knew he should be trying harder to get his memory and bonding more with his children. “Yeah, I guess.” “It’s good and bad,” Irving muttered. “Why?” Justin asked. “I got here late,” Irving told him. “What are you talking about?” Justin asked him. “I like you,” Irving told him as he caressed Justin’s face. Justin smiled a bit. “I don’t think we should talk about this right now.” “Why not?” Irving asked. “I’m trying to get my life back into place,” Justin told him. “And Brian is out there and...we are friends and nothing else.” Irving kept smiling as he leaned closer to Justin. Then he kissed the blond and was surprised when the blond didn’t pull away in fright or anger. “I can’t,” Justin told him not knowing why he had let the man kiss him in the first place. Well, he knew, he had been curios about kissing someone else other than Brian but for some reason it didn’t arouse in him the same feelings like he was high on drugs. His body didn’t tremble and his skin didn’t warm up, his stomach stayed still and his lips didn’t beg for more; so he concluded it was nothing like kissing Brian. “Why not?” Irving asked giving Justin his best sexy smile. “I’m with someone,” Justin told him. “You know that.” “You can’t even remember him,” Irving said. “I’m trying to,” Justin said looking away as his eyes watered. “I like him a lot. I think I might be falling for him.” “You don’t know him?” Irving asked. “I do, somehow, I do,” Justin said. “I can feel it when he’s close to me.” “But we are so alike, Justin,” Irving said. “You are an artist and so am I.” Justin frowned and thought about that. He didn’t want to be with someone that was like him, that would become boring at some point or maybe it was the fact that he wanted to be with Brian and no one else. “I don’t mind about the kids,” Irving said. “I think you should go,” Justin said. “What’s going on?” Brian asked as he came back into the room with a coffee in hand. He didn’t like how close Irving was to his blond. “Irving was just leaving,” Justin said. “He was saying goodbye.” Irving didn’t have another option than to get up from the bed. “Yeah,” he licked his lips. “I’ll call you, Justin.” Justin didn’t say anything. Brian walked to the blond and sat in the bed. “What was that about?” “Can we forget about it?” Justin asked. Brian sighed and nodded. He didn’t want to forget about it but he didn’t want to stress Justin out. He wanted to know if Justin was falling in love with someone else. It would crush his heart to a million pieces but he wanted the truth instead of living a lie.
