Define Normal Chapter 2: "I’ve found you a Husband!" "Shae baby, do you know what gay means?" "Yes Daddy, Kira told me." Shae answers with a big smile. Oh great Justin thinks as he wonders what sought of conversations these two little people have been having. "What did Kira tell you?" "Well Daddy it means when a boy loves another boy or when a girl loves another girl… so… Daddy are you gay?" "Yes, I am. Are you okay with that?" "Okay with what daddy?" Justin looked at his son and marvels at the pure innocence he still possesses. "That I am gay. That I like boys better than girls." "Why don’t you like girls daddy?" Justin thinks for a minute of a simple way to put it. "Remember last year when Aunt Molly had a boyfriend?" "Yeah, she got weird. She was always on the phone with him and she never wanted to play with me." Justin laughs a little at Shae's description of Molly's situation. "Well, one day when I met someone and I fall in love, it will be a boy not a girl." Shae thinks about it for a minute as Justin patiently allows his son to process all of this. "Will you still play with me when you get a boy friend?" Justin lets out a breath he didn’t realize he was holding. "I won't ever forget you no matter what baby boy. Do you still love me?" Shae hugs his father tight. "Yes Daddy, I love you no matter what." Justin smiles at his son. "Thank you." Justin takes Shae's hand and starts to walk over to his car. "Come on son, we have to go to dinner at Grandma’s tonight." "Yay!" As they drove to his mom’s place Justin realized that he was very lucky to have his little boy. Shae loved and accepted him for who he was. He didn’t know if he should be upset that Kira Kinney told his little boy about being gay, because in some way he was grateful. ~The same day at school~ "Hello, how can I help you sir?" "Hi Miss Grey is it, I’m here to pick up Kira Kinney; her father got stuck at work." "Yes, I'm Kira's teacher and that’s fine Mr. Novotny, Brian called us. Kira is outside waiting." "Thank you." Michael walks out to the playground and comes up behind Kira. "Hey there!" Kira turns around suddenly recognizing her favorite uncle's voice. "Uncle Mikey, hi!" "Hay baby girl, how was your day?" Michael asks as he squats down to hug her. Kira happily returns the hug and then starts to jump up and down clapping her hands. "I found him!" "Who did you find?" Michael can't help but smile at her antics. "Come on let’s get in the car and head off to Grandma Deb’s house while you tell me all about it, okay?" "Yay, Grandma Debbie." As Kira grabs Michaels hand her smile turns into a slight frown as she wonders… "Daddy is going to come get me later right?" "Yep, we have the family dinner tonight, so he will be there." Kira smile returns, "Okay." "Tell me about this guy you found?" As Michael places Kira in her seat, she starts to explain. "Shae, who is my new friend and going to be my brother…" Michael can't help but smirk. "…he is really pretty, he has blond hair and pretty green eyes and I want Mr. Justin to be my other daddy." Once finished Kira lets out this huge proud smile. Michael laughs! "You’ll have to talk to your dad about that one." Kira smirks with a slightly raised eyebrow. "Oh I will don’t worry." Still laughing, Michael looks in the rear view mirror at Kira. "I have no doubt about that." ~At Jennifer Taylor’s House~ Shae Jumps out of the car and busts opens the door. "Grandma I’m here!" Jennifer comes out the kitchen and picks up her grandson. "Hay sweetheart." "Grandma, did you know that daddy is gay? That means he likes boys more than girls." "Really." Jennifer looks at her son in the doorway with a startled expression and then returns her attention to Shae. "How do you feel about that?" "I'm happy about it because me and Kira thought that our daddies could get married so we could have two daddies. Shae beams at his grandma. "Shae, I made cookies and Molly is in the kitchen why don’t you get one?" "Yay, can I tell Aunt Molly about this?" Jennifer looks at Justin who nods. "Sure sweetie." Shae runs into the kitchen and Jennifer walks with Justin in the living room. "Do you want to tell me what’s going on with your son considering what he just told me?" "It's okay Mom, I know. I didn’t know about the last part but what I was supposed to tell my son when he asked me if I was gay". "He asked you that?" "Yeah, this girl at school told him all about it." Justin rolls his eyes dramatically. "Well in that case you did the right thing. Being honest with him is a great thing but what about this little girl telling him about all this stuff?" "I thought I would be pissed but in some ways I am okay with it. He is going to learn a lot of things in school and I don’t want him to think just because I prefer guys to girls means I’m strange or that there is something wrong with me." With that Molly enters the room with Shae at her heels. "There is something wrong with you and you are strange." "Shut-up Mollusk." "How come you didn’t tell me I was going to have a brother-in-law?" Molly smirks as she is pleased to be able to pick on her brother. "I told Aunt Molly all about what Kira told me at school today." "Good God Molly, shut up and I’m not dating anyone." Molly sits next to Shae on the couch and smiles down at her nephew and tickles him a little. "You’re right, you’re not, but I have a feeling you will be." Shae and Molly start to laugh as Molly winks at her nephew. Justin walks to the kitchen to help his mother with the food and to get away from his son and sister. ~Novotny House~ When Brian finally gets to Deb’s it’s after five and he knows she is going to rip him a new one for being late. He walks into the house; Kira notices him and runs to her Daddy. Brian picks her up. "Hay Brown eyes, how was your day?" "Great, I missed you, did you miss me?" Kira looks deep into his eyes as Brian smiles at his beautiful daughter. "Yes I did." "Come on you two Dinner is ready." Debbie motions for them to join the table as Brian walks with Kira in his arms to the small kitchen and sits her down as he sits next to her. After a while when everyone is finishing up dinner… "Hey!" "HeY!" Everyone was still talking and ignoring Kira. "Hay people!" Yet still no one noticed her, so she yells… "People of Liberty Ave!" Now everyone is looking at her dumbfounded and Debbie responds. "Yes princess." "I've been trying to tell you guys something." "That's fine, but Kira we don’t yell at the dinner table okay." "Sorry Daddy, but no one was listening to me and I didn’t like it." Everyone laughs at that because she really is her father’s daughter. "Okay, well you have our attention now, what did you need to tell us?" Emmett asks. Kira sits up and places her hands in her lap and gets this very serious look on her face. "Thank you Auntie Em." Michael whispers to Brian. "You do you realize she is becoming more and more like you everyday?" Brian laughs, "Yeah I know." "I have found him." Kira's smile is so big it lights up the room. "I have found my new papa and a husband for my Daddy." Brian starts chocking on his wine and everyone else is in a state of shock. Debbie is the first to speak. "What…huh…what?" Then Emmett. "Why didn’t you tell us, who is he?" Then Ted. "Are you serious?" Michael just sits there with this huge smile on his face as he looks at Kira who has this very pleased look on her face. Debbie, Ted and Emmett all ask… "Brian, tells us about him?" Brian has a, what the fuck look on his face and then scowls at Kira a little, "What are you talking about?" Kira starts to get a little worried lowers her voice and explains. "Well, I just thought that you should have a husband to love you in that special way that Auntie Em and Uncle Teddy where talking about." Kira smiles hopefully. "They said that you need to get laid." Brian glares at Emmett and Ted and looks back at his daughter. "Brown eyes, we will talk about this at home. Say good night to everyone." "Okay." Kira's smile fades. As Kira says good bye Michael pulls Brian aside. "Brian, don’t be hard on her. She is just worried and wants to see you happy, like we all do." "I’m not mad…just surprised. I didn’t think she could understand something like that." "How could she not, she is your daughter after all. Michael smiles hoping that Brian will see the funny side. "Now take her home and talk to her like you always have." Michael hugs Brian. "Thanks Mikey." Brian goes to get his daughter. After that Brian gets Kira in the car and starts to drive towards the loft. "Daddy, are you mad at me?" "No, brown eyes." Even though Brian has said that he is not mad at her, Kira is worried as her Daddy is so quiet and doesn't look or talk to her all the way to the loft. ~Across town in Justin’s Apartment~ "Shae, come in here for a minute." Shae walks over to the couch and sits with his father. "Yes, Daddy." Justin picks up his son and sits him on his lap. "Shae, you know that Kira’s daddy can't be your dad right?" "Why not?" Shae says with a pout. "Because I don’t know her dad and I can’t be with someone I don’t know." "If you knew him and liked him could you then?" "It's possible." Justin lets out a little laugh. Shae smiles at his father. "Okay." "Let’s get you into bed." Justin carries his son to bed. "Night little sunshine." As he kisses him on the forehead. "Night Daddy." ~Loft~ After they got home from the family dinner Brian got Kira ready for bed and they still hadn’t talked about what Kira shared with the family at dinner. But to be honest Brian wasn’t sure how he felt. There was a time when he could be pissed but now he was hurt because he thought his daughter was unhappy and wanted another dad or that she knew parts of him that others didn’t. As he tucked her in and was getting ready to leave her room Kira decided to try and talk to her father. "Daddy, I’m sorry." Brian turns around and looks at her a little sad. "What for brown eyes?" "For saying that I found you a husband. I didn’t mean to make you mad." Brian returns and sits on the edge of her bed. "You didn’t make me upset, but are you happy?" "Yes, are you?" Brian places his tongue in his cheek as he smirks. "Yes, I am why do you think you need a papa and I need a husband?" "Because you have enough love in you to share with someone besides me." Kira puts forth her most amazing smile that she knows her Dad cannot resist. Brian felt the tears well up in his eyes. He was truly amazed how lucky he was to have such a daughter. "Thank you for that, now go to sleep, you have school tomorrow." "Daddy, are you going to pick me up?" "Yes, good night." "Night Daddy." As Kira closes her eyes she starts to plan but falls fast asleep. Brian walked into the living room of the loft truly amazed by his daughter. He never imagined his life would be like this when Lindsay asked him to give her a baby but then Kira was born and everything changed from the first moment he held her in his arms. He knew he was completely gone. There was no sense in fighting her, as it turned out maybe she was right. He would love to have some one to come home to and be there for Kira in the end not just him. Who was he kidding though, no one would want him and he would never want to cause his daughter pain. ~End of the school day and Miss Grey’s Kindergarten class is outside.~ Kira was on the swings when she saw the familiar shadow of her friend and looked up. "Hay Shae!" "Hi!" "I’m sorry about yesterday." Shae sits on the other swing next to her. "Why?" "Because I shouldn’t have asked your daddy that." "I’m not worried about it Kira, my daddy and I talked about it and he told me that he is." "Is what?' "Gay." "Oh, is everything okay?" Kira looked deep onto Shae's eyes. "Yeah, I am. I love him and he is the bestest daddy in the world." Justin walked out to the playground; he looks at the same thing he saw yesterday, his son playing with a very familiar brunette. "Hay little Sunshine…Miss. Kira." Shae runs and hugs his father and Kira stands up and walks towards Justin. "Mr. Taylor." Kira nods towards Justin and he smirks at how grown up Kira acts. "Kira, you can call me Justin." "Oh, Okay." Kira smiles a little." "Justin…um… I’m sorry about yesterday. My daddy said I shouldn’t ask people that." "It’s okay sweetheart." Before anyone could say another thing Brian started calling for his daughter at the backdoor of the school. Kira smiled brightly in response and waved at her father. "I have to go. My daddy is here. Bye Shae and Justin." She ran towards her father and jumped into his arms. Justin stood up and watched Kira run to the most beautiful man that he had ever seen. He could have sworn that he just stopped breathing because there at the door was a man with deep hazel eyes and auburn hair. He was so lost in thought he didn’t hear Shae. "Daddy, Daddy." Shae had to pull on his arm to get his attention. Justin shakes his head to clear his thoughts. "Um…sorry Shae, who is that?" Shae laughs at his father. "Silly daddy, that’s Kira’s daddy." Then who was the man that picked her up yesterday?" "I know, that was her uncle Mikey, she told me all about it when she got here. Her daddy got busy at work and couldn’t come get her. She said it doesn’t happen a lot but sometimes it does." Meanwhile across the playground. "Kira, who was that you were talking to?" Kira looks up at her father and smiles inwardly. "That’s Shae my new bestest friend and his daddy Justin." "Is that the same guy you told me about last night?" Brian looks down at his daughter. "Yep. The one I said who is going to be my new Papa and your new husband." Kira smirks a little. Brian didn’t know why but he couldn’t take his eyes of the blonde beauty across the school playground. "Did you change your mind daddy?" "No, I didn’t. I was just wondering." "Uh huh…you so like him." Kira raises her eyebrow and smirks in a way that copies her fathers'. "No, I don’t. Now come on let’s go see your grandma Deb." Okay, I will just talk to her about it, she thought but she didn’t dare say that out loud.
