Night had already fallen on the town of Red Bluff, a city located in the northern part of California. Lulu Gullar decided on going for a walk to the largest cemetery in town. She was a skinny eighteen-year old with dark hair and brown eyes. She was a beautiful and appeared to be one of the spoiled cheerleaders people envied for what they believed she had. Teenagers envied her. She seemed to have no restrictions on her at all; coming and going whenever it suited her. No one suspected she led a double life because no one really knew her. Her friendships were limited to Nick Gargaglia, a short and skinny boy; Manola Monroe, a girl with long, dark, brown hair and big brown eyes and Rita Chose a short girl with a dream of becoming a famous singer. This trio were her only friends and yet, they had no clue what Lulu did. In truth, there was nothing enviable about her life at all. She had been completely alone for the last eight years since vampires had killed her parents. It was this tragic event that led Lulu to become a vampire hunter. She went in search of revenge. After eight years she had become strong; a force to be reckoned with that vampires had become afraid of. “Wow! Tonight I’m gonna sing to the ‘Baribal’. I’m so excited,” Rita told her friends. “We know that, Rita. This is just the fourth time you’ve said that.” Manola said. “Oh, I’m really sorry, guys. I’m just too happy,” Rita explained. “I know I keep repeating myself, but it’s something I’ve wanted for a long time.” “And we’re happy for you too,” Manola responded. “Thank you, Manola. You three are my best friends,” Rita said. Come on let’s have a group hug,” Rita said. As she tried to hug Lulu the girl pushed her away. She had touched a place on her back that was injured from an attack by a particularly dangerous vampire. “Lulu, what’s wrong?” she asked. “It’s nothing. Yesterday, while I was practising I fell on my back and now it hurts like a son of a bitch.” “Well be careful next time,” Rita said. Lulu had told her friends she practised hip-hop so whenever she couldn’t go out with them she had the perfect excuse. “Oh look who’s here… the three losers.” “There are four of us standing here, not three, Eleanor. Do you know how to count?” Rita asked. “I know how to count, Rita. However, I didn’t include you because you’re so short no one pays attention to you,” Eleanor retorted. Eleanor Crupenter was a blonde, skinny girl with beautiful blue eyes. She dreamed of becoming a famous singer like Rita. Jealousy and envy made her hate Rita for what she couldn’t accomplish, and therefore, every friend of Rita’s was an enemy of Eleanor’s. “You know, Rita is going to sing to Baribal tonight,” Manola said cruelly aware that Eleanor would be very envious. “Oh really? Well congratulations,” Eleanor said before leaving. ************ I know I left too much mess and destruction to come back again And I caused nothing but trouble I understand if you can't talk to me again And if you live by the rules of "it's over" then I'm sure that that makes sense Rita was happily singing Dido’s famous song, White Flag, while her friends were clapping their hands just for her. Her friends were all there except for Lulu. Apparently, she had other things to do. “Do you really think you can kill me, vampire hunter?” the vampire asked just before he felt the wood stake plunge into his heart. “Vampires are so boring, they always say the same things,” Lulu said proud of herself. It was the fourth vampire she killed that evening and she thought she would call it a night, but it seemed that not everyone had the same idea. “Are you in a hurry to go somewhere?” Lulu turned at the sound of the voice. Who was the man she asked herself, only to discover it was really a vampire. He was tall and thin and dressed completely in gold; a rare thing for a vampire. As she looked at his face she didn’t think he appeared very dangerous. He had dark hair and dark brown eyes and he didn’t look to be older than eighteen. “Actually I am. A friend of mine is singing as we speak,” Lulu replied. “Oh I see. Don’t worry, I’ll be fast.” “You can bet your ass you will be,” she agreed. Hoping to catch the vampire off guard Lulu attacked him with a strong kick. However, the vampire was quicker and out maneuvered her before the she was able to attack him. Quickly he retaliated and threw a punch at her face and stunned her for a few seconds. “How did you know I was going to hit you there?” she asked, but the vampire wasn’t in the mood for conversation and he kicked Lulu in the same way she had tried to kick him a few minutes before. “It’s a secret. If I tell you, I’ll have to kill you,” the vampire joked before punching Lulu a second time. While she lay on the ground the vampire attacked her again. He kicked her in the face and made her nose bleed as well as adding several well place kicks to her stomach. “So I guess I’ll be able to tell you my secret very soon,” the vampire remarked. However, Lulu wasn’t a beginner at this sort of situation and she stood up before the vampire could attack her some more. “Oh, so you’re a fighter, are you?” “You bet I am,” she replied and grabbed a stake and lunged toward the vampire’s chest. Unfortunately, he knew exactly what she was going to do and reached for the stake before she could use it on him. “Now let’s see what it feels like to have someone plunge a stake into you,” he retorted. As he raised his arm he felt something hot being poured onto him. “Ahhhhhhhhh,” he spewed when he realized it was holy water. “Suffer, you bastard,” a female voice said from behind. However, the vampire was able to free himself and he ran away. “Are you ok?” “Yeah, I guess,” Lulu answered, surprised to be still alive. “My name is Scarlett,” the saviour said. She was a tall and slim girl with black hair, big, dark eyes and olive skin. “Nice to meet you Scarlett,” Lulu smiled. Thanks for helping me out.” “Oh my God, you’re still bleeding.” “It’s just a scratch.” “You’ve underestimated Andy’s power.” “Andy? Who’s Andy?” Lulu asked “The vampire who just attacked you. He’s not a vampire like all the others. He’s a vampire – seer.”
