What a jerk Ben is for dating his boyfriend's friend. This could drive a wedge between Michael and Ben, between Michael and Justin, between Ben and Justin when it ends, and between Brian and Ben. Ben is actually more than a jerk, he is stupid.

You know, before this chapter, I didn't realize actually just how much Brian hurt Justin with his offer. I know myself how horrible it is to love someone, but have an open relationship. You're starting to like some of other people, too, and you feel confused and even desperate. Poor Justin... and poor Brian for doing it to himself. To their relationship. I feel like he broke something, and now it will be hard to mend it. Very hard. Thank you for the great chapter, I can't wait for the next one!
Author's Response: Brian is breaking something for sure and hurting Justin in ways he never anticipated. But as Brian shows us every day, broken things can still be beautiful...and they are almost always stronger. B/J are going to come out of this stronger and more beautiful for sure. But getting through to the end without losing too much of themselves or of each other, well, that will be a challenge.

Oh-oh-oh, I LOVED this chapter! Wow! I sort of understand where Brian's coming from, but Christ, will he be even able to tolerate his own conditions?! He is sooo jealous already! But I love Ben and Justin, too - they were always my secret kick, I think they look beautiful together. Not as much as Brian and Justin, of course.

Author's Response: If Brian didn't exist, perish the thought, I think I might be down for some Ben/Justin. I've been feeling all naughty and bad writing them together, but a good naughty and bad.
Brian's actions, as they often are, are rooted in a good thought and a real concern, but his execution is almost always flawed. Truth be told, given his concern, there was really no right way to allay it. Just hoping and being flexible, open. Not Brian's strong suit. Even more, this "solution" allows him to put a little distance between him and Justin, which he feels he needs, but deep, deep down doesn't really want. Loving Justin from afar was safe. He could feel close, feel intimacy, without having so much to lose. Without feeling exposed. The last three months have had him feeling amazing, but off-kilter. At the end of the day, what he really wants is for Justin to look around and still choose him.
If for no other reason, Ben is the perfect first non-Brian option for Justin because he and Brian differ so very much. We saw that in their first kiss, in the way Ben immediately said what he wanted, allowed himself to be vulnerable, to risk rejection. This experience, as hard as it is for many B/J fans to watch, is necessary for both Brian and Justin. Justin has to be offered an easier choice, someone strong, sexy, and smart without all the baggage Brian carries so that he can see just how much he loves Brian, not in spite of the ways he's broken, but in some weird way because of them. Brian is who he is because of his life experiences, among other things, and Brian needs to know that Justin likes/loves/adores THAT person.

Ben and Justin? This sounds like a horrible idea. If it comes to sex, how will they all sit together. The awkwardness would be horrible. Ben, Michael and Brian might been able to get past it in canon, but this is different.
Author's Response: Keep in mind Michael and Ben met only a month or so ago, and Ben freely admitted it was probably a terrible idea asking Justin out.

I realize this is an AU fic, but the characters are still the characters even if they are a different age. And in the show I don't recall Michael or Ben ever being remotely attracted to Justin. Color me confused.
Author's Response: I'm not sure we would necessarily have known about such attractions (yet they could still have existed)...Ben was a lot older than Justin on the show. So was Mikey. A lot of people thought it was wrong for Brian to be attracted to someone so much younger...I think age does actually play a role in who we allow ourselves to pursue and show attraction for.

This is a real mess, I honestly think that Brian should have taken Brandon's advice and called the whole mishoganah thing off. It clearly hurts him to see Justin with someone else so why not stop the pain before it gets too deep.
Author's Response: I agree. But Brian is worried. He thinks Justin needs more experience before settling down. And ... he's a little freaked out. This is fairly typical Brian behavior...Justin gets too close, he shuts down, acts kind of jerk-y, and hurts as a result.

Okay...Justin and Ben...i don't know how to feel about that. What I really don't get, is why Brian would suggest that they see other people after waiting for so long to be together and doing it the very next day after taking Justin's virginity...no disrespect intended but it just seems wrong.
Author's Response: It's actually very Brian of him. He's freaking out a little. Things have been too good. Justin has gotten too close. He's not used to being happy, being loved the way Justin loves him, and he's scared to lose it in another way (Justin leaving later). He's worried about Justin only ever having been with him. What he said to Justin was honest. Just not completely.
PS: That first time must have been pretty awesome (sending him into a tail spin like that--a lot of pressure on me later to write it. But I think I'm up to the challenge)

i was reading this story all day, it’s so great! i love that brian finally reacted when he saw ethan approach Justin, he should have claimed justin years ago. the last chapter you posted was great! i'm happy to read it! the prom was very beautiful, and i love that brian is very possessive and loving but in canon. i never like michael, but i like that brian is jealous of him, he even came up with a big great plan to keep him busy - that was genius. i'm glad the prom didn't end up badly, like in real justin's life. i want more! thanks!

I tell you...I have spent countless hours finding ways to impose my will on Brian (keep him Brian but get him to do what I want---In other stories, I've tortured --and I mean tortured-- Justin for this reason--this one was a little easier because they are younger and started as best friends.) I'm always worried about taking Brian too far outside of himself. So it's a relief that you think I'm doing pretty good on that front.
I had soooo much fun scheming with Brian.

Oh, Brian is *so* jealous! I try to imagine what their life with Justin will be in the future, considering how he thinks of basically everyone as of threat. But I’m crazy about possessive Brian. Poor Michael – he will have his heart broken if he realizes that Brian set everything up. And Justin? I doubt he’ll be happy.
I loved the moment when Justin misunderstood what Brian meant :) He can be so naïve sometimes, and it’s so sweet.
I can’t believe what Brian confessed! That was a beautiful moment – I loved it, both he and Justin are just glowing with happiness!

Very soon, Brian and Justin are going to have to deal with their insecurities (the childhood abuse and hustling messed with Brian's head...and Justin is still struggling with Brian's years of tricking). PS: I know it can't last, but I also kind of adore possessive!Brian.
Justin's relative innocence is also fun to write. That, also, can't last, but Brian and I are enjoying it while it does :-)
I'm glad you thought the end of the prom was beautiful. I really wanted it to be special (but believable--that's always the challenge).

Why are you so desperate to write my story for me?
So many answers, so little time... Work and RL have been rather shitty lately; in addition to the whole Christmas fiasco, and finding out that my bro-in-law got my sister NOTHING for Christmas or her birthday (12/27), this Monday I learned my best friend's mom has cancer.
I'm a problem-solver/peace maker by nature so I guess my brain has decided to help you and your stories while I'm sleeping instead of dwelling on my own crap. Sorry! :D
Your stories are a delight to read and always bring a smile to my face (and I'm sure MANY, MANY others!) so write when you are inspired, post when you can and know that your fans adore you :)

I think Brian may have created a monster by admitting to Justin he's never been restrained/blindfolded before, but I'm glad it gave Justin the confidence boost he needed to further their relationship.
A question popped into my brain WAY too early this morning- didn't Daphne live on Justin's street (or in his neighborhood) ?? Would her parents know anything about Justins'? Also, if they got divorced, remarried and/or Jennifer changed her name- there should be legal documents somewhere... maybe Mel could help Brian find them (or point him in the right direction).
BTW- my early morning insanity is a *good* sign (for you anyway). Your stories keep me thinking, guessing, and always wanting more! :D :D :D

Everything just felt unfinished. Like there were holes. Holes I needed to fill somehow and soon. Fall was turning into winter. Winter just made everything ache worse.
