I liked the ending.
Justin and Brian together. Always good, what more is there to say about such a golden and beautiful couple.
I liked that Ben and Michael are working their way back to each other. But it would have been rushed and unbelieveable for them to be back together so soon after all that's happened. So that was handled especially well.
Wren as bisexual or many even switching teams. An interesting idea you rarely see in a Queer fic.
I feel a bit bad for Tom. I didn't think Michael and he should have ended up together forever. But I do hope Tom got that introduction to a boyfriend's parents, or in this case Debbie, while he and Michael were still dating.
Brandon and Emmett is just the sweetest thing ever.
There is even some hope for Ted.
No complaints here.

Whoever the writer is has either never had more than an unusually mild case of poison ivy, or has forgotten what it's like. Because there would be no way Michael would be able to experience sexual pleasure at having calamine lotion rubbed on him. Calamine lotion would at most lesson the itching, at worst it does no good at all. Mikey would still be to distracted by the rash to feel anything sexual, no matter how bad he had it for Justin.

Not only does Michael have every reason to be furious with Brian, so does Justin. Brian would rather do all those horrid things to Mike rather than step up to the plate and declare his feelings for Justin. That was both cruel and cowardly. I wouldn't blame Justin at all if this alone made him turn his back on Brian.
But I don't understand why Michael and Emmett are mad at Brandon.

Author's Response: I'm happy you found it so! This is one of my favorite love scenes (out of all those I've written). Part of it is how raw Brian is emotionally, but mostly it's Justin's epipanies. He hears Brian in the way only Justin can hear Brian :-)

It was a very painful chapter. Strange - it was light, funny, beautiful, but it pained me so much to see that Brian and Justin's dates were actually going quite well. Of course nothing can be compared to how they feel when they are together, but I liked both new pairings, and it scared me. I feel it will be difficult for our couple to get back together fully. I can't wait to see where all of this is headed!
Author's Response: That's kind of what I was trying to show with Ben and Wren. They are GREAT! But that's not enough, not nearly enough. That's where Brian has it so wrong. Being awesome (and compatible) + time does not always equal love, not love like B/J feel anyway. Ben/Wren have to be perfect, have to be beautiful and thoughtful, to demonstrate what love is (imho). There are many many ALMOSTS in the world (now I'm thinking back to Dune), but only one destiny.

Good job with Brian and Justin. It just wouldn't be a b/j story without steamy love scenes. And it's always good to mix it up with Brian not always on top.

Ben's not exactly using Justin. He wouldn't be human if the fact that Mikey's in love with Justin or thinks he is didn't factor in a little to Ben's asking Justin out, but it's not a conscious thing. He genuinely likes Justin, and he's young and stupid enough to risk a lot on a very unlikely maybe. His situation with Mikey's pretty messed up.. Mikey likes Justin...Mikey likes Tom still (or so it would seem)...meanwhile he's got this great guy he probably could have locked down...if he weren't so mixed up.
I know almost all of my stories have bad guys, and very evil bad guys and often very crafty very evil bad guys, but not so with this one. This one is all about being young, stupid/naive, and messed up by previous trauma (everyone suffers from some combination of these).

I was very happy to see an update. My emotions are still on a roller coaster reading this story. I hope Brian stops this soon. Author's Response: I'm "glad" my writing is making you feel (and intensely). That's one of the greatest compliments I could get :-) I just feel bad if a lot of those emotions aren't good ones.
I know that all this makes zero sense to a lot of people. Brian isn't actually "trying" to hurt Justin or to do anything to him but maybe "free" him. He's deeply, deeply, deeply in love with Justin (much like canon!Brian). That terrifies him (again much like canon!Brian). He told himself over and over that Justin deserved better. That helped him just be his friend. Now Justin says he loves Brian, and Brian wants to believe it, but he is struggling. He thinks that Justin fell for him because they spent a lot of time together, and he was there. He thinks maybe Justin would have fallen in love with anyone in the same situation. He's giving Justin an out. If it turns out that Justin doesn't love Brian like he thinks he does...he won't have made a serious committment...it all sense in Brian's head. Just know...Brian isn't playing with Justin.

Brian's dates consist mostly of doing things that could be done with a friend, while Justin's dates seem to be putting him on track for a second boyfriend.
What's the story with Tom? What is he doing back? And why does Michael act guilty if he is supposed to be in an open relationship.
Author's Response: There's actually an explanation for that (the difference in their dates). They are both exploring things they've never explored before. Brian is attracted to Wren (and vice versa), but Brian is trying to get to know him before doing any heavy petting. Justin, who has only messed around with Brian before now, is exploring the physical (more than talking or feeling).
You'll have to wait to hear what Tom is doing back. As for Mikey, he is in an open relationship, but he is more of a monogamy type of guy, so he still feels weird. Ben was (or appeared) fine with it b/c Mikey has done nothing wrong.

Hmmm...I'm almost not sure what to say. It seems that no matter the angle you view it from, this little experiment with our boys just doesn't seem to be working for one reason or another. Justin may have said that he understands Brian's reasons for suggesting it, but does he really? Because he clearly doesn't want Brian to bone Wren and he was a little put off by the idea of tricking around on Brian. I can't wait to see how things develop between Brian and Wren.

You know, I'm completely torn now. I can't decide what I want more - for Justin to follow Daphne's advice, which is a very good one, and could probably save Brian and Justin's relationship, or this whole Brian's plan to continue. Brian needs the second option - to make sure, even though he's jealous as hell, already ready to murder someone - maybe Ben. Justin, on the other hand, absolutely can't stand it, he seriously wants out, but he also wants what Brian offered him, and - mroe than that - he knows that Brian needs the plan to go on. I don't know what's better, honestly. Maybe for Justin to grit his teeth and endure everything, so he could prove to Brian how much he really loves him. But it will be hard, and I'm really looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
It's a wonderful story, absolutely brilliant, and it's my most favorite of yours - along with 'How sweet it is'. I think the relationship you created between Brian and Justin here is unique - they have something really special, extraordinairy, but because of their past - of Brian's past - they can't just live happily ever after. They need time. Thank you for writing it, and for not rushing anything - I hate it in stories. Yours is beautiful, exciting, intense - honestly, I'm always jumping up when I read the most intense moments, you know how to tickle nerve endings!

I'm so happy you find this incarnation's connection unique. I know I changed the dynamic a little (gave it more complexity) by having them grow up together (Justin being the one to see the abuse and then begging Brian to run away with him to end it) and having Brian ensure that they had a warm place to sleep (by hustling--a sacrifice that wounds and bonds both of them). You're right. All they've gone through, especially Brian, they have an even rougher road to travel to get to their happy ending.
I had trouble deciding myself, so I took the middle road. It's all about give and take :-) I hope you like the newest.

I felt right away that Daphne and Emmett were plotting something! They are Justin's real good friends, and I absolutely don't blame Emmett for going on a date with Brian. I think he never meant it to be something serious, he was just fooling around, maybe even not expecting that Brian would agree to go out with him.
Poor, poor Justin... he and Brian are so vulnerable, but differently. Brian had a hard life, he was always trying to protect Justin, to ensure he doesn't need anything, while Justin is so naive and open-hearted, and he loves Brian crazily. This things hurts him so much... and Brian as well. I really can't wait to see what will happen to them after another few dates!
Author's Response: Emmett was surprised Brian said yes. He's really incapable of wounding Justin (a serious wound), so he knew halfway in he was being a butthead. Curiosity is a powerful thing. Daphne always has Justin's back (in my stories at least) and she loves a good scheme :-)

It was a very beautiful and sad chapter, it's so heartbreaking to see what's happening to Brian and Justin. I really like Brandon here - I remember his words, and he was completely right - life is life, even if Brian and Justin get through this mess and get married, they still might break up at some point. So the experiment is kind of useless, but I think for Brian it's important, because he desperately needs something to keep the hope that Justin will stay with him, will choose him, even years later. I'm sure it'll be this way, but poor boys have lots of troubles on their way - right now they still can back out of the deal with no serious repercusisons, but soon it will probably become impossible. I feel heartbroken for them, but also excited, because I'm an angst-addict!:)
Author's Response: Brian needs to feel worthy...and chosen. An unfortunate consequence of the abuse and hustling. In all that darkness, Justin was, is, his light, so he puts him on a pedestal. Not too different from canon, just more intense. Brian should get his self-esteem from within, but starting from a foundation like the one he had makes that a serious challenge. He's risking a lot to try to shake off his fear that Justin can't really love *him* -- thankfully Justin does truly love him, so after some unpleasantness he'll give Brian what he needs.

Justin, as always, knows Brian inside and out. Sometimes it takes a little while (when Justin's feelings are strong and ouchy or when it's outside his experience, e.g., with the hustling), but he always gets there. He's always a little surprised the lengths to which Brian will go to make him happy.
Brandon understands Brian in a different way b/c they've had similar experiences and are haunted similar demons. He'll definitely always have Brian's back.
Speaking of Brandon helping Brian out...Tom, the hustler who took Mikey to the prom, will be returning soon :-)

Well this whole ordeal is.... Strange. I mean I got Brian's purpose. He wants to make sure Justin has a taste of other meat as well and if he comes back n chooses Brian. He'll be happy n satisfied that at least Justin *chose* Him. Since he is getting into human psyche so much he should know he is present in Justin's life almost all the time. And are not parted which still is and will keep overpowering Justin's choice which is him obviously. Is Brian aware that even if Justin chooses him after this challenge there is NO WAY Justin can fall for someone else? Who won't put him in such challenges??? I mean most cheatings happen when people are in committed relationships. .. So this challenge thing isn't as valid as Brian might be thinking. Though he can try to actually stay away from Justin to test the Theory. Ya'know to test out-of-sight-out-of-mind theory.
Author's Response: You raise a couple of good points.
1) Even if Justin does choose Brian after this experiment, that does not guarantee Justin won't cheat or leave Brian later. Brian may not appear to, but he does know that. Brandon mentioned that the first morning.
2) Brian has the home-field advantage. Brian actually knows this, too. He was trying to make the experiment more effective by putting them on pause, but, of course, Justin wasn't having that. Brian should probably move out temporarily if he wants to really know whether Justin loves him for him or just because he's there. Whether he'd have the strength to do that is another question.
Brian is really only being quasi-reasonable. He has genuine concerns about Justin's inexperience, but his insecurity and fear are running the show. And what makes sense in your head when you are heavily influenced by such feelings doesn't always mesh with reality.

Brian you dolt!...don't you realize that Justin was already choosing you? The little blond fireball more than proved it with his actions, each desperate kiss was saying Ben is okay, but you're the one I really want. Brian should have followed his instinct and called the deal off.

Brian is a sadist for forcing this on Justin. The fact that Brian would insist on this alone makes him unworthy of Justin's love. I know it won't happen, but I think Brian deserves to be the NOT chosen one.
Is Ben aware that he's being used by Brian like this?
Author's Response: Brian didn't force anything on Justin. We always have a choice. Justin could have simply broken up with him.
I think calling Brian a sadist is a little harsh. If Brian were, he would be tricking left and right. But he isn't.
I really am sorry that you aren't enjoying the story.

Sorry for intruding, but wopner, Ben told Justin himself that he and Michael are seeing other people. In other words, they have the same arrangement as Brian and Justin, they are not madly in love, they've just met, and just a few chapters ago Michael was smitten with the guy named Tom. So, there is nothing to break, Ben has all rights to date Justin, and Justin has them too.

Anonymous, I think we should remember that Ben doesn't know the company as good or as long as in the show. Among all them, he likes Justin most of all, he was waiting for his chance, and now here it is. The idea is bad because he knows Justin is in love with Brian, but I honestly doubt Michael's or Brian's opinion are that important to him - why would they be, he doesn't love them yet?
Author's Response: You are right. The way I wrote Ben into the story and in the story...he just met everyone. He's attracted to and likes Mikey, of course, but he's also attracted to Justin. We saw that at the Christmas Party and in the diner the next day. Ben hasn't yet envisioned Mikey as the one for him (and might not--no guarantees in AUs). Mikey hasn't done that, either. He's always wanted Justin, and he hasn't completely given up hope yet. As I see it, everything beyond Brian and Justin is very much up in the air.

Agree that Ben is twotiming creep that Mikey should kick to the curb. But why is Justin given a pass? He dates the boyftiend of his best friend, jeapardizing his rare chance at romance just for a dumb idea Brian came up with. This is not okay behavior, even if ot is Justin.
Author's Response: Ben isn't two-timing Mikey. They have an open relationship and a brand new one at that.
Justin isn't being given a pass, not by me at least. In my estimation, neither Justin nor Ben has done anything wrong. Remember Mikeyu asked Justin out even though Mikey knows Brian loves Justin. If you blame Ben and Justin, you need to blame Mikey, too. And Emmett. He asked Brian out. But I don't blame any of them. They are all mature consenting adults. If Brian and Justin and Mikey and Ben want to be in open relationships, that's their perogative. And if their friends want to take a shot at dating them, I say, why not?
