What a great domestic scene! How considerate of Brian to get Justin's fave sandwich. Except for the mayo it sounds awesome! I understand about the financial support but I think Kai's mother has to sign this documents too. Otherwise the custody will not be legal.
This is a great story and I love it very much.
Author's Response: She abandoned him and has not supported him financially since she left 3 months prior. Plus, she is in another country. It's the judge's call and given the circumstance, is more than likley not going to pursue it. Every state has a different ruling on how to consider abandoment a form of child neglect. But you're right, it should be brought up in the hearing. Thanks for putting that thought in my mind. I'll have to consider that!

glad to see the boys are taking this seriously. Justin should not let Craig off the hook that easily. Craig is responsible for Kai financially. It's irresponsible for Justin not to seek support. He has no 'real' job, no means to support Kai, other than Brian. It's selfish of him not to ask Craig for financial support and expect Brian to pay for all of Kai's needs, which will be many.
I hope Brian has a sit down with his son to talk about Kai, and why he's moving in with them. Gus is a smart boy, and knows his daddy loves him, he just needs his daddy to talk to him and explain things.

Author's Response: The problem is, if Justin seeks full custody, then legally Craig doesn't have to give Justin or Kai any money. Unless Justin seeks for child support, which then could cost him his full custody... giving Craig the option to seek joint custody. Every state has different rules, and family court unfortunately often looks at who can pay for the child, not who actually cares about the child.

Thanks for letting Brian be the mature one for a change. LOL Brian and Justin are finally on the same relationship page but Justin is kinda in shock that it's real. I'm glad that Brian is being supportive so far. I think Justin is beginning to have an idea of what it takes to be a guardian of an autistic child. I think Justin expects an immediate response to his signing and having Kai choose. But it will take a lot of work and a lot of repetition before he begins to see any promise.
I saw a special on the news the other day that they are having marvelous results when teaching autistic children how to surf. :)
Author's Response: I didn't see the special with surfing. What channel was it on? I would love to watch that. I think there is so much more information out there now than there used to be, and children today (not just those with autism, but children with any form of disorders or delays) have more opportunities for intervention and growth through a multitude of resources and strategies. It's never an immediate change, but progress is progress in any form. Families should never give up hope.

justin is pushing kai too much at times. all that play at the park surely wiped him out. hope things go well wed for them. love how brian is standing right by his side when he really doesn't have to. and looking out for kai's interest makes it all the better.

story is very true to autism. i have a nephew who is autistic. he had the same make-up as kai from 1 year on. i am really interested in the progression of your story as it is authentic. have you studied or have first hand knowledge of autism? just wondering. keep up the good writing as it is a good story and informative to your readers. my nephew is 10 going on forty and is doing very well-mainstreamed in school.

The last 6 years has been in the early intervention field working the families and their children going through the process or just receiving an autism diagnosis. My cousin also has autism, she is 20 years old now.
Again, thanks so much for your kind words on this story. "Kai" is a blend of several toddlers I have had the pleasure to work with. He's quite dear to my heart :)
That's great to hear about your nephew. It's wonderful that children have so many more opportunities and resources available to them now than were available 20-30 years ago.

WOW!! You did it again....I love this chapter, you bring such beauty in the little things in our boys life....I love that Brian is there to help out with Kai, he's so patient, and loving with both his blonds....I also love the new banner, it brings alll the elements in this well written, well deserved ble ribbon story....I just enjoy the pace of this story and the stroy reminds me of a lovely Sunday that you don't want to end (does that make sense...lol)...Can't wait for the update...

Wht a great chapter, so bittersweet and honest.... I love so much the interaction between Justin and Kai, love how you show the love, impatience, and heartbreak of helping to care for a special needs toddler. I could feel the weariness that Justin had trying to care for Kai thru your writing...I love that Brian finally came home and took care of his men...This story is so beautifully written and so powerful and I was so glad that you received that blue ribbon...you deserve it and congrats!!!!

Not sure if it was sweetly sad or sadly sweet! Beautiful anyway! Loved that Brian couldn't stay away and loved the way Justin accepted him back without hassle and without nagging; even though it meant they still have a lot to resolve neither are in a place where they would have the mental or emotional capacity to deal with tough issues. Yeah and we don't have to pass any tests either!! (I'm certain if we did Carig would NEVER have been a parent at all!) Hope Brian goes home and they make up soon! (I need my vicarious smoochies!!) Love how much progress Kai us making. When I read about Kai and the train it reminds me of my nephew - we started getting more aware of the problems when he used to line up and colour code all his cars and trucks and would become VERY upset if someone moved them. That plus little or no eye contact, few if any obvious emotions and how he hated being hugged, little to almost no language and we all started to think the obvious. Tests proved we were right - he had early intervention and is now at uni! (I make it sound a lot simpler than it was for my sis-in-law!) Still adore this fic!! :)

Great chapter! (see I spelled it right) lol! WoW Kai is does so good with Justin he making improvements in leaps and bounds! I love the scene with the puzzle...it made me melt and I had tears in my eyes...you can just feel the love that Justin has for his brother...on another note how I hate the immature, idiotic Craig...grrr...one can only hope that he has a fatal accident while he's wiyj his latest bimbo, I would say a heart attack , but we all know that Craig doesn't have a heart! WOW... it seems as if though Kai is really making progress.... doing puzzles and trying to repeat what Justin tells him... I am glad that Craig is not giving him a problem about guardianship...since he is so busy with another "serious relationship" again... lol... what Brian said is sad.. but.. true... you need a liscense and tons of paperwork to purchase a car... and yet anyone like that S.O.B. OMG... only Brian would expect everything to be back to "Normal"... 5 minutes after his last treatment... lol....
