I read Homecoming, then read this one. I know, it's out of order, but I really liked this story. If only season 5 had gone like your version, I would have liked it a whole lot more. I loved that Brian and Justin stayed together through all of the issues that arose, that they had each other to rely on when everyone else was against them, and also that they supported and stood up for each other!!

I loved this story so much when you originally posted it that I went back there and reread the whole thing. Does your putting it up here mean you will finish it the cliffhanger you left was HUGE. Sorry I love this is not really helpful in a critique kind of way but maybe it will help me get you to want to finish or at least add a new chapter.

Love this interlude with Dan. We learn more about him and Billy. It's nice to know that Justin's memory is not the unimportant thing that Brian thinks Justin thinks. I always loved the picture of Brian, Justin and Dan. I made this chapter.

This chapter is one of my favorites. We get a look at the new Babylon. We learn about Emmett's new place, which sounds perfect for him and Deb seems to have come to terms with not blaming Brian. Better yet we learn that Brian sent tickets for Mel and JR. That will be important.

We get the good news that Brian is all for the housewarming of their new home and the extra bonus of Justin contacting Lindsay. I forsee that Gus will be back in Pittsburg, but it won't be without it's drama.

This is the part of the storyline that I never liked. I realize they had to go for drama but having Michael and Deb putting the blame on Brian was totally unfair. Frankly I wouldn't have offered the money. You've got Michael down pat, and being so stupid that he would rather sell his source of income?

Loved how B&J are so in tune with each other in this chapter. Bill
Author's Response: Thank you. I wanted to deal with the whole Prom thing at some point because I think that both of them do have issues. Justin's are obvious. But Brian, aside from the guilt, I believe also carries around a degree of resentment that Justin left him alone with all those memories. Not rational, but I suspect that feeling was there all the same. Especially when Justin was demanding romance in S2. How could it not be? So I wanted to get it out there so they could move on a little more healthily. Glad you enjoyed.

Glad that Debbie is being reasonable. I'm sure Brian was relieved. Bill
Author's Response: Yes. Brian is so vulnerable where Deb is concerned. And sometimes she really takes advantage of that. But I think in this case her frustration with Michael refusing help would outweigh her usual "take care of it" response towards Brian.

Great interaction with Brian & Jennifer and Justin's reaction.
Author's Response: Thank you. I had this image of Brian kind of edging backwards, from the prospect of a hug from his "mother in law" and thought Justin would find that really funny. Glad you're enjoying.

Mikey as usual completely clueless. Loved Ted & Emmett being on Broan's side.
Author's Response: Thanks. My own compaint about Michael was that he was, IMO, by far more self-centered than ever Brian was. If his own wants and needs were in question, everyone else always disappeared from Michael's myopic world view. But I love Ted and Emmett. It's nice to have them come out to play.

I remember this house. It sounds so amazing and unique, a perfect place for B&J. Bill
Author's Response: Thank you. I have no idea where the whole idea for the house came from. It just sort of appeared in my head one day and I fell in love with it myself. It sounded like a place that Justin would love and Brian would feel was suitably unique.

Great chapter, look forward to the house hunting. Bill
Author's Response: Thank you. Yes. I've always thought they just needed something a little more manageable. Not something they needed a whole staff of cleaners and gardeners to maintain.

Well I like your ending. This is a much more rational ending than we got in canon. Still pisses me off though that Lindsay's hands were all over Justin leaving. Guess you can't change that though? Really well written and I can see all the thought you've put into this. I truly enjoyed reading it. Parts of this I am keeping as personal head canon btw. Looking forward to starting the next part.
Well done!!
:)
Author's Response: Thank you very much. I have to admit the worst part about writing it was that I had to re-watch a lot of S5 way too many times. Yugh! So yes, I'm all for using this as "my personal head canon" too. (One of the nicest compliments I've ever received, by the way.)
I was stuck with the ending, because I'd already started writing Homecoming when I started this. So it had to lead into Homecoming, which meant Justin had to head off to NY and the girls had to take Gus to Canada. I just tried to give Justin a more realistic reason for going to NY and ... well, there will be consequences in Homecoming for the girls' decision.

This is a side of Brian that we rarely get to see. The considerate side. Here we have them slipping back into Liberty and meeting up with Ted and Emmett is the best way to do this. It's like a rehersal for when they have to confront the rest. You end this chapter with Michael, the one person who could destroy the happiness they are feeling. Michael with his feelings of entitlement and inability to see any other side but the one he's decided on.
Author's Response: I think Brian feels really awkward about being "considerate" and will only let that side of himself loose when he can disguise it. And yes, Ted and Emmett are a nice way to ease them gently back into their Liberty Avenue family. As for Mikey ... well, yes. We are totally on the same page about Michael.

This chapter gives us a better look at the house and we learn more about Billy and Dan. Which is kind of sad. Justin was right to think that it could be them in fifty years. I love how well Dan knows Brian and that he's letting them have the house for half price. Won't Jen be surprised.
Author's Response: I think Dan recognizes himself in Brian right from the beginning. And it doesn't hurt that Justin reminds him of his beloved Billy. All Dan wants now is to hand the place over and leave. He's promised Billy that he will go back to England and he wants to get on with that promise.

Totally loving your take on this season!! I am no fan of Mikey or Linds but I do like Mel so I know later parts of this may be rough for me. That's okay I'll keep reading. I do have to ask though if you like Deb? Because I truly can not stand her either. Anyway I'm off to keep reading just wanted you to know I'm truly loving this!!
Well done!
:)
Author's Response: Thank you. I'm ambivalent about Mel. I liked her in S1, but by S5 I was pretty much over her endless bitching. She showed no gratitude to Brian for all that he's done for them - the money, signing over his rights, fixing their wedding, getting them back together when they split the first time. None of that was enough for Mel to ever speak pleasantly about him. And the whole thing about not telling any of their friends or family that they'd split up - that was just bizarre.
I'm equally ambivalent about Deb. In some ways I guess we all want to be Deb. In others, and especially related to Brian, her behavior leaves a lot to be desired.
But I hope you do keep reading, and that you enjoy. There should definitely be some bits that appeal.

So much love and understanding in this chapter. This story just gets better and better. Bill
Author's Response: Thank you. I think what I was trying to capture in these chapters was the immense sense of relief for both of them. They've both been in so much pain, I wanted to try to capture what it felt like when that pain just went away. To catch that sense of healing. That's where the love and understanding come in, I think.

Great chapter. So like B&J to not just talk about what they want but each try to figure out what the other one wants. Looking forward to more. Bill
Author's Response: Thanks, Bill. Yes ... their communication skills are improving, but there default position (especially Brian's) does tend to be 'do what's best for Justin'. It's just that sometimes he just doesn't get that right. But at least this time he's listening.

That big mansion always bugged me and I like your solution. Knowing they will find the perfect house is one of the many things I love about this story. And the new characters you add to it.
Author's Response: Thank you. I just can't imagine either of them wanting to deal with the staff they'd need to maintain such a huge place. Cleaners, gardeners, someone to look after the tennis court ... just never sounded like them to me.

Hi, my dear friend - just stopping in to say hello, and tell you how much we appreciate you posting this lengendary story on here, b/c that's the way I see it. I see this and the other story you posted mentioned frequently in a lot of conversations, and these are definitely classics. I'm only ashamed that I have not had the time to read either, but I definitely WILL.
I have started on "Reverberations," and will defnitely leave feedback once I'm done. I'm loving how you have rewritten it so far! And I love you, my friend! I always have such fun with you, and I always look forward to the next time.
I know there aren't many actual reviews for either story on here, but please don't let that be an indication of how much it is appreciated, b/c it is. And if you haven't had a chance, please go to the FB page and read the comments about your stories, and how excited they are to have them here. I only wish all the ones who commented and liked the posts about your stories would also leave a comment here, but sadly, I don't think that will happen. But please know how well-loved all these stories are.
They are also anxious to know if you will be continuing your Homecoming story. Perhaps you could address that on the FB page, or on here?
Thank you again for posting these here. I know how time-consuming that can be, but we are honored to have them archived on here, and promise to take good care of them. :) Love you. XOXO ~Kim
Author's Response:
My dear Kim
I can only say "ditto" to your kind words. I really hope we get together again at some point. I have finally retired, as I think you know, and I'm hopeful that I'll be able to swing the occasional trip, so who knows? I would love to see you again.
I'm only sorry it's taken so long for me to get these stories posted here. I've started posting Homecoming and will continue with that this weekend. At 43 chapters it might take a while! I've also been having so much fun going through and replacing all those photoshop ransom notes with the correct images. Am still fuming about that whole thing.
Will try to get on to the Facebook page this weekend.
Hugs

Okay, this went as well as could be expected what with all that happened. Justin had to take his chance and Brian was more than willing he do so. The girls moving put a crimp into everything, especially with how sneaky they were about it. I'm so glad to see that Homecoming will be here for everyone to enjoy. I can't tell you how many times I've read it. I am looking forward to more chapters on Homework. Thank you so much for giving us a QAF world that you can't help but love.
Author's Response: Thank you so much. I have to admit that only knowing that Homecoming was already underway enabled me to finish this story. I hated parting them, but I think when they reunite they will be stronger and ready to truly commit to a future together. Brian's doubts about holding Justin back will be ... diminished at least, and Justin's doubts about whether a relationship is what Justin really wants will be pretty much laid to rest as well. They'll be ready. It will be their time.

Love the ride on the cruise boat. Does he tell Justin about what he was thinking. Is monogomy in the cards?
Author's Response: Glad you liked this one. As for monogamy ... I've never felt that was such a big deal for this pair, as long as they're honest with each other, and as long as Justin knows that he's not just the trick that stayed too long.

Love this. There were so many instances where you just knew that Brian gave a shit. Just in this chapter alone there are quite a few. Then you threw in Wicked! As good a tie in as I ever saw.
Author's Response: Thank you. I have to admit that I had my own reasons for the Wicked thing. I saw it for the first time myself in Chicago when I was there on a business trip and it just seemed a perfect tie in.

Looks like Justin's show was a sucess. Lindsay certainly doesn't deserve any credit for that. So they are getting their mansion! I can imagine their time in Chicago will be great. Can I slap Deb? I just know she's going to say something awful.
Author's Response: Justin's show was a reasonable success. And no, Linds doesn't deserve any credit. As for the mansion - well, time will tell.

Some times I just want to slap Deb. Shame Vic is not around to let her have it. Now we just have to get through the showing.
Author's Response: That's Deb. Kind of short sighted and wanting her way over everything. Now. Especially where Brian is concerned.

On the bright side Brian was in Chicago rather then on his way to Austrailia. On the dark side the virgile didn't change and Ben was arrested. So much for Zen Ben.
Author's Response: Yes. The Ben thing really worried me in canon. I saw no difference between Ben punching and kicking an older guy who was much smaller than him because he didn't like what the guy said than the thugs who beat up Darren. Tolerance has to go both ways. And how could he have gotten away with it? Not only were there dozens of witnesses - many of them were homophobes who would have loved to drag him into court. It didn't make any sense at all.

Oh boy. This is it! But Brian is being much too good about it. Love it.
Author's Response: Yes. Justin finally got to say a few words to Deb. As for Brian. Well. The truth is that he loves Deb. She's really the only Mom he's got.

It's about time. Did you write a story about Justin telling Deb off for all the things she's done to Brian? If you did I have to find it again, I know I've read everything you've written and I know if you did it was spectacular. Just like here where Justin tells Mikey off.
Author's Response: I'm not sure about the Deb thing. I don't think there's ever a scene where Justin really cuts loose with Deb the way he does with Michael in this chapter. But there are definitely a couple where he takes her to task over Brian. One of them is in an upcoming Reverb chapter.

Love the reasoning for doing the wedding issue. Wish there was a way to get back at Michael somehow in the comic book.
Author's Response: That's a thought isn't it? I've read lots of fics where Michael has gone on to do Rage with a different illustrator. But I've never read one where Justin does it with a different writer. And think of the possibilities for torturing Zephyr.

Love how Justin is no longer the clinging twink and a man. And that Brian is playing it just right.
Author's Response: I think Brian has always encouraged Justin to be as fully Justin as he can be. In some ways it challenges his control freak tendencies, but in others I think it was a relief when Justin began to take more control of his own life. I think Brian has craved a relationship of equals all his life - and now Justin is moving up to take that position. Interestingly, I think it's always been the basis of his friendship with Emmett, and that it was the change in his relationship with Ted in S4 and S5. Of course, it never applied to Michael.

If only they had talked to each other and been truthful, then things might have turned out different. But you caught them perfectly just the same.
Author's Response: Yep. Sometimes Brian does NOT make it easy. But it's the thing about being afraid to show weakness in case someone takes advantage. His self-protective mode kicks in. Even with Justin.
